Soulm8te, the R-rated spinoff of horror hit M3GAN, has landed on streaming, and it has already set a record its makers may not be keen to celebrate.
The spinoff horror film arrived as the lowest-rated film in the franchise, as Screen Rant reports.
The Blumhouse thriller went straight to streaming on 1 August. As reviews trickle in, Soulm8te holds a 55% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The franchise’s lowest score to date, albeit from just 11 reviews so far. It follows M3GAN, which became a $181.8 million blockbuster, and the underwhelming sequel M3GAN 2.0.
The spinoff is also the series’ first R-rated entry.
Reviewers singled out Lily Sullivan’s performance as the programmed android, alongside David Rysdahl as a widower coping with his wife’s death.
But many argued the erotic thriller leaned too heavily on the tropes of Fatal Attraction and Ex Machina without adding much of its own.
For Irish horror fans, it is another Blumhouse experiment to stream right now, and an early test of whether the M3GAN universe still has staying power.
