Steven Spielberg is developing a new WWII film about fighter pilots against the Nazis

He helped make Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers. This could be excellent.

After a few ‘heavy’ films like The Post, War Horse, Lincoln and Bridge of Spies, it seems that Steven Spielberg has rediscovered his Midas touch for entertaining audiences at the cinema with Ready Player One.

Granted, sci-fi is a genre that the world’s most famous director knows inside and out, but The Hollywood Reporter has said that Spielberg looks set to move into uncharted territory – the world of comic books.

The Oscar-winning filmmaker is set to adapt DC Comics’ World War II action-adventure hero, Blackhawk.

Given the fact that Spielberg has directed Saving Private Ryan, Empire of The Sun and produced Band of Brothers, we think his CV speaks for itself.

All this without mentioning his incredible ability to shoot action scenes and create some truly wonderful and iconic set-pieces – Jurassic Park, the Indiana Jones films, Minority Report, Duel, Jaws etc.

At present, David Koepp is writing the script and Spielberg, along with his Amblin Entertainment, will produce Blackhawk for Warner Bros.

The comic book series depicts the adventures of an international squadron of fighter pilots that are led by a man named Blackhawk in their fight against the Nazis during World War II.

Speaking about the new film, Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich said: “We are so proud to be the studio behind Steven Spielberg’s latest hit, and are thrilled to be working with him again on this new action adventure. We can’t wait to see what new ground he will break in introducing ‘Blackhawk’ to movie audiences worldwide.”

As always, Spielberg is going to be a very busy man in the coming years because he’s attached to direct Indiana Jones 5 next and he’s also developing a remake of West Side Story.

Given the fact that Spielberg was involved with Band of Brothers and their perfect account of what it was like during the airborne landings at Normandy and Operation Market Garden, we’ve got high hopes for Blackhawk.
