Cork-based comedy The Young Offenders achieves highest box office opening for an Irish film in 2016

What a week it's been for these boiis...

Friday 16 September marked the nationwide release of the hugely enjoyable Irish comedy The Young Offenders. In case you aren't already aware (like seriously, what have you been doing?) The Young Offenders tells the hilarious story of two Corkonian teenagers who go on a craic-filled quest to find… well, crack. The pair hatch a horrendous unique plan to find a missing bale of cocaine worth 7 million Euro on the west coast of Cork, with the pair robbing bikes and embarking on a 160km road trip along the way. We recently had the pleasure of meeting the two lead actors in the film, Chris Walley and Alex Murphy, bringing you some craic-filled interviews and Snapchat antics with the very talented pair. Directed by Peter Foott  and released in Irish cinemas by Wildcard Distribution, The Young Offenders has landed second in the box office chart, opening with a total of €202,000, with some cinemas still to report their earnings. This is the highest opening for an Irish film at the Republic of Ireland box office this year. Not bad for a pair of langers from Cork, wha? Well done to all involved!
