We’re gonna have to wait a little bit longer for this one…
Fans of True Detective have a slightly longer wait than expected for the return of the hit show. At the end of 2022, HBO revealed their full slate of shows set to arrive in 2023, and amongst that line-up was True Detective: Night Country.
The first footage of the fourth season of the hit show was shown alongside clips from other big 2023 HBO shows including Barry, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Hacks, Perry Mason, Succession, Tokyo Vice, Winning Time, Full Circle, The Idol, Love and Death, The Last of Us and White House Plumbers.
From those clips, all of those shows have already debuted on HBO… except for True Detective: Night Country, which has now officially been pushed to 2024…
The trailer for True Detective: Night Country also confirmed a 2023 release date
As picked up by Deadline, HBO’s official website now no longer lists the new season of True Detective as a 2023 release, with HBO themselves not providing an exact release date beyond “January 2024”.
While not officially stated, it is believed that the show has been pushed back due to the ongoing writers’ and actors’ strikes in Hollywood, which has also caused several major blockbusters to have initial their 2023 release dates also pushed into 2024.
As for the new episodes of True Detective, they will star two-time Oscar-winner Jodie Foster and professional boxer Kali Reis, as the pair will play detectives who find themselves investigating a strange case in the snowy surroundings of Alaska.
The official synopsis reads: “When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the eight men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. To solve the case, detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Reis) must confront their pasts and the dark truths lying underneath the Arctic ice.”
Once we get to January 2024, provided the show isn’t delayed any further, True Detective: Night Country should be available to watch on Sky Atlantic or with a NOW Entertainment Membership.
