The couch gag bit is just inspired.

Because it started life in the 80s, it’s only fitting that The Simpsons be given the 8-bit treatment that has already been applied excellently to other examples of pop culture in recent years. Dated though it might look (purposefully, of course), we can only imagine the amount of work that went into recreating arguably the most famous animated opening sequence ever made.
