It's not the first time he's retired from the show, but this time his departure looks a bit more permanent
Jay Leno has bid farewell (again) to his position as host of 'The Tonight Show', one of the most iconic television shows in America, and he will be replaced by Jimmy Fallon, after 22 years in the job.
He opened the show with his usual monologue, and a couple of jokes about the fact that he was leaving again, saying that this time it was for real: "I don’t need to get fired three times, I get the hint."
The show was star-studded with people like Jack Black, Kim Kardashian, Billy Crystal and Oprah Winfrey, and even President Barack Obama made an appearance to make a few jokes about Jay. It's fair to say he probably owes him a few anyway...
Leno showed plenty of emotion in his closing speech too, talking about how the people at the show had become his family after a particularly rough few years at the start, and began to choke up a bit as he struggled through his closing speech. He also saved one big musical guest to liven things up after his final comments, the man it turns out that Ireland is in love with, Garth Brooks.
It will be interesting to see how things progress from here with Jimmy Fallon, but it looks like this time Jay is gone for good.
