RTE not afraid to have a laugh at their own expense.
Earlier this month, RTE broadcast an exclusive interview with Michaela McCollum, the Tyrone native’s first public appearance since her release from prison in Peru, where she had served two and half years for drug smuggling.
To say that
there was a huge reaction to the interview would be an understatement, with many accusing RTE of giving McCollum an easy ride and suggesting that it was little more than a PR opportunity for the 23-year old.
Eight days on, RTE will revisit the interview in a special sketch for Republic of Telly tonight, where, by the looks of things, they’re not shy of taking the p*ss out of the huge controversy that the interview generated.
