The West Wing star confirms talk of a reboot

Carl Kinsella

This would be amazing news.

Richard Schiff, famous for his role as Toby Ziegler in political drama The West Wing, has confirmed that a reboot of the beloved show is on the cards.

Speaking on the Popcorn Talk podcast, Schiff confirmed that creator Aaron Sorkin wants the show to make a comeback.

Schiff said: “Aaron has said he wanted it to happen. He might go with a new administration, in which case, you know, some of us might show up as consultants… it makes no sense, maybe one or two of us to be in the White House.”

Schiff, who also directed several episodes of The West Wing, said he’s been vocal in trying to bring the show back.

“I’ve pitched it to Aaron. He loved it,” he said.

“I don’t think it should be in the White House. I think that’s overcooked. My image of a show in the White House now is something like House of Cards, which is more apropos for the current administration — and Veep.”

The original show featured such stars as Alisson Janney, Rob Lowe, Martin Sheen and Bradley Whitford. The final season saw Jimmy Smits take over as president.

While the show ran for seven seasons, finally finishing up in 2004, Sorkin himself left in the fourth season. He went on to write several hit films, such as The Social Network and Steve Jobs.
