Irish musicians to represent the country on the world stage at SXSW

Hundreds of artists from around the world are set to perform in Texas next week.

Ireland has left an indelible mark on the world of music, with a long and storied tradition of artists taking their songs around the world for those overseas to hear. One such event that provides a platform for these artists is South By Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas. 11 musical acts are set to travel across the Atlantic to perform at the Music From Ireland Showcase as part of the festival. Among them include Sorcha Richardson and Aoife Nessa Frances, who both performed sets in the US Ambassador's Residence in Phoenix Park on Wednesday night (1 March). Both artists are nominated for the RTÉ Choice Prize Album of the Year, with the winner set to be announced next Thursday (March 9). The event was hosted by US Ambassador to Ireland, Claire Cronin, and featured a short talk from Angela Dorgan, CEO of First Music Contact, an organisation that assists Irish musicians in building their careers.
