Bitter weekend in store as temperatures set to plunge as low as -4 degrees tonight

Brrrrrr....

Conor Heneghan

As if we needed an excuse to stay indoors, put the fire on and watch the footie all weekend.

We’re not sure if it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas but it’s certainly beginning to feel like it with temperatures set to continue to plunge this weekend.

It’s mostly storms and general miserable weather we’ve had to contend with so far this week, but tonight it’s going to get cold, very cold in fact, as inland temperatures plunge as low as -4 degrees C.

Met Eireann have predicted widespread frost throughout the country with wintry spells in parts of the west and north overnight.

With the lowest temperatures predicted to be between freezing and -4 degrees C, there is a danger of icy patches so motorists should exercise caution if they do have to take to the roads.

Saturday will be dry and bright but it won’t be much warmer with afternoon temperatures set to reach no higher than 7 degrees C, while Sunday is set to be breezy during the day and bitterly cold once again on Sunday night, with temperatures hovering around 0 to 2 degrees C.

Wrap up warm if you are venturing out this weekend folks, but if you want our advice, just put the feet up and the fire on instead.
