Gardaí moved in at around 10.30am on Thursday, targeting a silver Volvo S40 as part of what has been described as a “managed containment operation”.
The vehicle and those travelling in it were reportedly being investigated over a number of burglaries and related offences in different parts of the country.
What started on the motorway soon developed into a wider operation across west Dublin, as some of the people being pursued attempted to escape from officers. One man reportedly entered the River Liffey near Chapelizod in an effort to avoid being caught.
When officers examined the Volvo, they reportedly found a number of items linked to break-ins, including tools, gloves and face coverings. Gardaí also discovered that the car was using false number plates.
It follows a run of significant Garda activity in the capital in recent months, including Garda seizures in Dublin under Operation Meacan and a Dublin gun seizure in Crumlin linked to organised crime.
