Don’t you just hate it when your donkey meat turns out to be fox?

Don’t you just hate it when your donkey meat turns out to be fox?

It’s not too long ago that the massive horse meat scandal hit these shores so we shouldn’t be too surprised that similar stuff is happening in other places.

Still, with that said, getting donkey confused for fox is definitely a new one on us. Wal-Mart, the US retail giant, has had to recall donkey meat sold in its outlets in China after traces of fox DNA were found in the product.

Tests carried out by Shandong Food and Drug Administration discovered the fox traces and a full recall has now been ordered.

According to reports on NBC, donkey meat is a popular snack in parts of China, and 2.4million donkeys were slaughtered for food in the country in 2011.

“We are deeply sorry for this whole affair,” said Wal-Mart’s China president and CEO Greg Foran. “It is a deep lesson (for us) that we need to continue to increase investment in supplier management.”
