A man in his 30s has been arrested.
An arrest has been made following an alleged assault in Co. Kerry that led to the death of a man in his 40s.
The incident happened in the early hours of Monday morning in Knockanure, with Gardaí alerted at around 12.30 am.
The incident reportedly happened outside a pub, where a man was stabbed multiple times.
A man in his 30s has been arrested and is being held at a Garda station in Kerry.
Gardaí are currently appealing to road users who were travelling in the vicinity of Knockanure village between 12 am and 1 am and may have camera footage.
Murder investigation underway as man dies following alleged assault in Kerry
In a statement to JOE on Monday morning, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said:
“Gardaí are currently investigating all the circumstances surrounding the death of a man, which occurred following an incident in Knockanure, Co. Kerry, in the early hours of this morning, Monday 27th May 2024.
“Gardaí and Emergency services were alerted at approximately 12:30 am regarding an alleged assault in the Knockanure village area.
“Upon arrival, a man aged in his 40s was discovered with fatal injuries.
“He was pronounced deceased at the scene and his body has been removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Kerry for post mortem.
“The local Coroner has been informed and the services of the State Pathologist have been requested.
“A scene is currently held for examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.
“A man, aged in his 30s, has been arrested in connection with this incident and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda Station in the Kerry Division.
“A senior investigating officer (SIO) has been appointed to lead the inquiry, and an incident room has been established at Listowel Garda Station.
“Gardaí are appealing to the public for information in relation to this incident.
“Any road users who were travelling in the vicinity of Knockanure village between 12:00am and 1:00am and may have camera footage (including dash cam) are asked to make this available.
“Anyone with information in relation to this incident is asked to contact Listowel Garda Station on 068 50820, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800, 666 111 or any Garda Station.”
