A red van was captured on CCTV hitting the barrier on Tuesday morning.
There were delays to the Westport-Heuston rail service on Tuesday after a van hit a level crossing barrier in Roscommon.
Footage from a CCTV camera showed a red van with a trailer crashing into a level crossing barrier at Knockroghery at about 8.40am on Tuesday morning.
The collision meant that 7.15am service from Westport to Dublin was delayed by over an hour and there were knock on delays to other services along the route.
Iarnród Éireann said that repair works had been carried out on the barrier and called on the public to always obey level crossing warning signs.
The incident has been reported to An Garda Síochána.
