Manhunt underway in Berlin as ISIS claim responsibility for attack

Alan Loughnane

Police are searching for the suspect.

German police have revealed that they’re uncertain who carried out the attack in Berlin which left 12 people dead.

Police released their only detained suspect on Tuesday and are now coming under increasing pressure to make further arrests in the hunt for the attacker.

Security has been stepped up in the capital as police have broached the possibility that there may have been more than one man involved in the attack.

Islamic State militants claimed one of their members had carried out the attack but could offer no evidence to back up their claim.

The former suspect of the attacks, who was released yesterday, was a Pakistani man named Naved B and he had denied any links to the incident.

There were no forensic clues to link him to the vehicle and police were doubtful of his involvement in the events of Berlin leaving them to believe that the perpetrators are still at large in Germany.

“No-one will rest until the perpetrator or perpetrators have been caught,” Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere told German media.

“The right thing is to keep your eyes open – be vigilant in this situation. But you can move around safely in public places. There is no need for panic,” he said.
