PICS: Armed forces have taken to the streets of Brussels in expectation of a Paris-style attack today

Stay strong, Brussels

Stay strong, Brussels.

Residents of Belgian capital Brussels have been advised to stay away from large gatherings of people today as for fear of a ‘serious and imminent threat’ of a terror attack.

The city’s metro has also been shut down “based on quite precise information about the risk of an attack like the one that happened in Paris”, according to Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel.

It was reported yesterday that one of the perpetrators of last week’s Paris attack, Salah Abdeslam, was apprehended and arrested in Brussels, sparking fears that other terror cells could be operating in the European city. The city was the home of Abdelhamid Abaaoud, the suspected orchestrator of the Paris attacks.

Belgian top-flight football match Lokeren vs Anderlecht has also been called off as a result of the ‘precise’ information that the Belgian government is working with.
