McGregor was arrested at the time of the incident and was later released. Grainy footage of the incident had initially been circulating online but clearer footage has now emerged.
Police say the alleged victim in the case was trying to take a picture of the Dubliner outside a hotel when McGregor slapped the man's phone out of his hand, stomped on it several times and walked away with it.
McGregor's case is due before the courts again on 30 April, and a trial date has been set for 13 May.
