Camogie Final: Footballer Faces County She Played Football For

There cannot have been many All-Ireland stories quite like it. Just three weeks after playing midfield for the Armagh ladies footballers, Christina O’Reilly came off the bench for Cavan against Armagh in Sunday’s Glen Dimplex All-Ireland Premier Junior camogie final at Croke Park.

How the camogie final crossover happened

On 18 July, Cavan beat Kildare in their camogie semi-final in Tullamore on the very same day O’Reilly lined out for the Armagh footballers against Galway. With Armagh’s football campaign over, the Laragh United native linked back up with her native Cavan for their trip to headquarters. A genuine dual talent, she has starred for Crossmaglen Rangers in both codes, helping them end a 22-year wait for an Armagh senior camogie title last season.

Her cross-county involvement provided one of the most fascinating subplots of a packed weekend of All-Ireland finals at Croke Park.
