Gary Neville will be back on Sky Sports next season (Report)

Fingers crossed.

Gary Neville will return to a role as a pundit with Sky Sports next season, according to a report in the Daily Mail.

According to the Daily Mail, word within the England camp is that Neville will accept what was an open-ended invitation from Sky to return to the role following England’s involvement at Euro 2016, where Neville is working as an assistant to manager Roy Hodgson.

Neville had earned a reputation as the most insightful football pundit around prior to his departure from Sky Sports to take over as manager of Valencia late last year.

That subsequently turned out to be a disaster for the former Manchester United defender, who was sacked after just 10 wins in 28 games in less than four months in charge.

Since his departure from Sky, a number of guest pundits have stepped in alongside Jamie Carragher in what was Neville’s most high-profile gig on Monday Night Football.

If and when Neville does return to MNF, it will be alongside a new host, with David Jones set to replace Ed Chamberlain, who will take up a role with ITV Racing.

Neville’s likely return is one more reason to look forward to the new Premier League season when it does arrive, but let’s concentrate on the Euros for now, shall we?
