The management and players of Ringmahon Rangers deserve huge credit according to this story in today’s Irish Examiner.

It is easy to be cynical about sport these days so it is heart-warming to read a story like this today in the Irish Examiner. Examiner journalist Denis Hurley tweeted his own match report from a game between Corinthian Boys and Ringmahon Rangers in the Cork Schoolboys Under 14 Premier Division.

With Corinthians leading 1-0 their keeper Alan Kelleher received an injury and a defender picked up the ball and threw it out of play so that Kelleher could get treatment. The referee had no option but to award a penalty for the deliberate handball.

But after having a word with the touchline, Ringmahon’s penalty taker Adam O’Reilly rolled the kick into the recovered Kelleher’s arms and Corinthians held on for the 1-0 win.

You can read the full report below.

Hat-tip to Denis (@Denis_Hurley) for the story.
