JOE’s Song Of The Day #603: Arvo Party – ‘Liberté’

Eric Lalor

Arvo Party wants us all to have a party.

Belfast-based musician and producer Herb Magee releases banging tunes via the moniker Arvo Party.  Seven months on from the release of his Northern Ireland Music Prize-nominated eponymous self-titled debut album, he’s back with another delicious slice of electronica.

Arvo Party

The track is called ‘Liberté’, a masterfully propulsive six minutes of electronica blurring sonic lines via late 1990s trance worship, simmering ambience surges, full-blown nu-disco and dancefloor-ramming house histrionics.

There’s a Jean Michel-Jarre feel to the keyboards in this. It’s euphoric and uplifting. Listen to it on your earphones with the volume right up and transport yourself to any great dance club in the world. It’s a great and typically ambitious effort from someone who is rapidly becoming one of the leading lights in Irish electronic music right now.
