Here’s how likely Ireland is to be hit by a terrorist attack

Carl Kinsella

2016 has been a truly tragic year, particularly with the perceived increase of terrorist attacks across mainland Europe.

However, despite how it may seem countries like France, Belgium and Germany are not considered to be the countries most at risk of suffering at the hands of terrorism.

It has been a long time since Ireland suffered at the hands of any kind of terrorism, but the Global Terrorism Index still ranks the country on the top 50 most at risk – though Ireland’s ‘Terror Rating’ is a comparatively low 3.66, just below Tunisia and Chile. Overall, Ireland is 48 on the list of 50 states.

Iraq is the most at-risk country, with a rating of 10 – closely followed by Afghanistan and Nigeria, countries with heavy ISIS, Al-Qaeda and Boko Haram presence.
