Do you like to cover your chips in salt and vinegar? Or maybe you prefer mayonnaise? Well, some people prefer to melt chocolate over their chips, according to a new survey.

There’s nothing like a nice bag of chips from your local chipper, but the next time you pop in for a one & one you might want to try a slightly different topping. The lads over at Just-Eat recently conducted a survey to find out what ‘the people’s’ favourite chip toppings are and they found some fairly interesting choices.

It seems the old favourite, tomato ketchup, has been put back on the shelf, as the no.1 choice for people these days is now curry sauce, which took 19.9 per cent of the vote. Cheese came in at a close second with 19.6 per cent of the vote.

However, while we would expect to see ketchup and curry sauce on the list, there were a few other ‘exotic’ choices on there. Chocolate seems to be gaining popularity as a chip topping as too is ‘pea wet’. Never heard of it? It’s the water you drain from a tin of peas… which just sounds manky.

“It shows that people’s palates have switched from salt and vinegar to a slightly more eclectic and diverse range of sauces,” said etiquette adviser William Hanson.

“We’re much more conscious of what we are eating and more open to trying new flavours and experimenting.”
