Here are the 5 best movies on TV this evening

Rory Cashin

Back to life. Back to reality.

Yep, Monday really does slap you across the face like a wet, cold fish, doesn’t it?

Unless, of course, like your pals at JOE, you work weekends too, in which case Monday is just the day you notice that most of everyone else is little bit less happy about it being so far from the weekend.

Thankfully, there are distractions at hand, like the fact that Joker is in the cinema, or these movies on the telly for you to choose from tonight:

MONDAY 7 OCTOBER

The Da Vinci Code – Sky One – 9pm

Tom Hanks goes on the run after police in Paris believe he is the prime suspect for the murder of the head of the Lourve Museum. But there is also something to do with… Jesus Christ? As in, the actual Jesus Christ. A bonkers thriller that is some fun if you can go in knowing that it is, in fact, bonkers.

American Psycho – TG4 – 9.30pm

Before he became Batman, Christian Bale was Bateman… Patrick Bateman, that is. A rich, well, psychopath who begins butchering his co-workers and competition and pretty much anyone he crosses paths with. But he also loves a bit of a bop to Phil Collins.

Underworld: Evolution – ITV4 – 10.50pm

The second,  and – despite what the reviews say – the actual best of the Underworld series, because it has a bit of a bigger budget, Kate Beckinsale is finally having a bit of fun in the role, and that sex scene is still hilarious to us. Is he having sex with her belly button? Lol.

Four Lions – Film4 – 10.55pm

A comedy from the demented mind who gave us Brass Eye and The Day Today, focusing on four British terrorists who decide to train and commit an act of terror. We did mention it is a comedy, right? But it is a laugh-through-your-hands brand of comedy, like Borat but without them knowing there is a camera in the room.

The Grudge – Horror Channel – 11pm

The American remake of the hit J-horror stars Sarah Michelle Gellar in the tale of a haunted house that seems to go out of its way to kill anyone that goes through the front door. Still pretty scary, if not quite as “I can’t deal with this, throw the telly out the window” level of scary as the original.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
