Here are the 5 best movies on TV today

In case you’re not watching Love Island and you’ve literally seen everything on Netflix…

The weekend is nearly upon us, so we should probably have ONE more quiet(ish) evening, right?

Thursdays are good days to check out some movies, be it on the big screen (check out all of our reviews for latest cinema releases here), or on the smaller screen at home.

If you’re leaning more towards the latter category, then here are the best options you’ve got today:

THURSDAY 11 JULY

Jason Bourne – FilmFour – 9pm

The fourth (or fifth, if you include the Jeremy Renner one) entry in the Bourne franchise is, without a doubt, the worst of the bunch. But even the worst Bourne movie is still better than a lot of other action movies, especially once you check out that bonkers car chase that destroys about half of the Vegas strip.

Happy Gilmore – Comedy Central – 9pm

Adam Sandler shouting at a golf ball – “Why you don’t you just go HOME? That’s your HOME! Are you too good for your HOME? ANSWER ME!” – might still be the funniest thing he’s ever done.

The Jackal – Syfy – 9pm

Richard Gere is the IRA contract killer (?!) who is released from jail to help the authorities track down a ruthless assassin (Bruce Willis) before he takes out his secret target. A passable, if bizarrely cast, remake of The Day Of The Jackal. Jack Black is also in here as a flamboyant gun-maker, for some reason.

American Sniper – ITV4 – 11pm

One of Bradley Cooper’s SEVEN Oscar nominations came from this drama directed by Clint Eastwood, in which Cooper plays the real-life US Navy Seal who is reported to have the highest kill count for any shooter in recorded history. A little too in love with the American flag and the whole idea of ‘MURICA, but still a decent watch.

Ted 2 – FilmFour – 11.30pm

Mark Wahlberg and his teddy BFF are back, being just as naughty as ever. Truth be told, it isn’t nearly as good as the first one, but sure listen, we’ll take what we can get.
