Lorenzo means a lot of us won’t be leaving the house this evening…

We always wondered if, knowing the bad weather is on the horizon, if TV channels would show something like Twister or The Day After Tomorrow to tap into the national sentiment.

That isn’t the case today, however, as this evening’s best movies are decidedly not weather-related.

THURSDAY 3 OCTOBER

Coming To America – Comedy Central – 9pm

Eddie Murphy’s iconic comedy about an African prince who comes to America for some life experience. If you’ve ever heard anyone suddenly singing “Just let your souuuuuuuuuuuuuul glow!”, it is because of this movie.

The Martian – Film4 – 9pm

Matt Damon is accidentally left behind on Mars when a space mission goes horribly wrong and he must find a way to survive several hundred days alone on the planet before he can be rescued. Oddly, it is a lot funnier than that description makes it sound.

Lethal Weapon 3 – ITV4 – 10pm

Not as good as the first two, not as bad as the fourth one, but it does open with the duo not quite handling a bomb threat as seriously as they should have. So, yeah, still plenty entertaining.

The Faculty – Syfy – 11pm

The writer of Scream and the director of Desperado team up on this smart sci-fi horror about a small town that finds itself being overrun by aliens.

Gold – Virgin Media Three – 11pm

James Nesbitt and Maisie Williams star in this offbeat comedy about an estranged father who returns to his hometown after an absence of 10 years in order to reconnect with his daughter and ex-wife, but unwittingly finds himself responsible for almost destroying all their lives.

Sinister 2 – Film4 – 11.45pm

The sequel to the hit horror is directed by Ireland’s own Ciaran Foy (Citadel) and tells the story of a young mother and her two kids who move into a house, only to discover it is SUPER haunted and has designs to kill everyone who stays there.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
