Holding a near-perfect 98% Rotten Tomatoes score, the film won three IFTA awards.

Our TV movie pick for tonight (Friday, 10 April) is Aisha, the acclaimed 2022 Irish drama from writer-director Frank Berry (Michael Inside).

The film focuses on the title character (Letitia Wright, Black Panther), a young Nigerian woman seeking asylum in Ireland who is "floundering in a maze of social services and bureaucracy".

Alone, she finds an ally in Conor (Josh O’Connor, Wake Up Dead Man), a local young man and employee at her Direct Provision centre with a troubled past of his own.

"Together they struggle to maintain their tender friendship in the face of Aisha’s increasingly dire predicament and her rapidly diminishing options," the plot synopsis adds.

The drama earned rave reviews from critics upon release, with many praising its timely story and powerful performances.

Holding a near perfect 98% Rotten Tomatoes score, the movie picked up three IFTA awards, including Best Director and Best Script for Berry.

Aisha is airing on RTÉ2 at 9.30pm. It is also available to stream on the service NOW.

Here are the other movies on TV tonight:

Top Gun: Maverick - E4 - 8pm

One of the best blockbusters of recent years. We're still waiting on the sequel.

The Great Wall - Film4 - 9pm

An odd but fun period action flick where Matt Damon and Pedro Pascal play European mercenaries who journey to The Great Wall in 11th-century China just as alien monsters attack.

The Cowboys - TG4 - 9.00pm

A well-liked '70s Western starring John Wayne.

Money Train - Legend - 9pm

After White Men Can't Jump, Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson reunited for this action comedy.

The 13th Warrior - Legend Xtra - 9pm

An underrated historical action flick starring Antonio Banderas, which is also from the director of Die Hard and the writer of Jurassic Park.

Tenet - BBC Two - 11pm

This time-travel sci-fi spy thriller from Christopher Nolan earned mixed reviews upon release, but we believe it's one of his most ambitious and stylish movies.

Four Lions - Film4 - 11.05pm

This brilliant political satire black comedy follows a group of British jihadists (led by Riz Ahmed, Bait) who push their abstract dreams of glory to the breaking point.

Something in the Water - BBC One - 11.25pm

A decent 2024 shark-focused survival thriller that we've recommended before.

My Left Foot - RTÉ One - 11.45pm

Daniel Day-Lewis won the first of his three Oscars for playing Irishman Christy Brown in this excellent biographical drama.
