Netflix has just added The Rip, a brand new crime thriller movie starring Oscar-winners Ben Affleck and Matt Damon (Good Will Hunting).
In the film, the pair play Lieutenant Dane Dumars (Damon) and Detective Sergeant J.D. Byrne (Affleck), cop partners in Miami whose team finds $24 million stashed away in a derelict safehouse.
Required by law to stay on the scene and count the money, trust amongst the group quickly begins to fray over one fateful night.
Trapped within hostile territory, as outside forces learn about the size of the seizure, it's not just the criminals Byrne and Dumars need to worry about, it's their fellow officers and maybe even themselves...
Co-written and directed by Joe Carnahan (Copshop, The Grey, Narc), the movie's title is derived from Miami cop parlance for "taking the bad guy's stuff," which is known as "ripping it”.
"In the event of a seizure of cash or drugs or weapons, the confiscation itself is known as the 'rip'," the filmmaker explained to Netflix.
Carnahan has also said the film is inspired by true events, stating:
"The Rip came out of a deeply personal experience that my friend went through, both as a father and as head of tactical narcotics for the Miami-Dade police department.
“It's inspired in part by his life and then, by my enduring love for those classic ‘70's cop thrillers that really valued the character and interpersonal relationships and became touchstones of that era — films like Serpico and Prince of the City and more recently, Michael Mann's Heat.”
Alongside Affleck and Damon, The Rip boasts a star-studded cast. It includes Catalina Sandino Moreno (From), Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights), Lina Esco (S.W.A.T), Néstor Carbonell (Shōgun), Sasha Calle (The Flash), Scott Adkins (John Wick 4), Steven Yeun (Beef) and Teyana Taylor (One Battle After Another).
The Rip is only out today (Friday, 16 January) but is already earning very positive reviews from critics, holding an 88% Rotten Tomatoes score.
While some have said the movie isn't the most original, as it draws from older crime classics, many have commended its gritty tone and its sense of tension and paranoia.
The chemistry between real-life best friends Affleck and Damon has also been singled out for praise.

You can read some of these glowing reviews below:
The Daily Beast: "A rugged affair that’s canny and concussive enough to compensate for a somewhat deflating ending, it proves that its headliners remain cinema’s preeminent BFF duo."
The Guardian: "The Rip is ultimately a game for the boys, though, and taken as a piece of boisterous macho pulp, it’s a propulsive enough four-beers-in watch. A movie to be enjoyed on Friday night and forgotten all about by Saturday morning."
Globe and Mail: "A corrupt-cop drama that is mostly aware about its B-minus-movie aspirations, Carnahan’s film is a thoroughly enjoyable if not particularly original mashup of Training Day, Cop Land, Triple 9 and a dozen-plus other films."
The Hollywood Reporter: "While his new film doesn’t reshape the mould, an ace cast led by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck and twisty plotting that bristles with paranoia and mistrust make it an entertaining watch."
Wall Street Journal: "A sturdily entertaining, hyper-kinetic avalanche of action propelled by equal parts bullets and f-bombs."
The Rip is streaming on Netflix right now.
