Amazon Prime Video has just added 19 big movies to its library

Rory Cashin

Quite a few very good movies here that you might not have heard of before…

While we’re just days away from Amazon Prime Video launching the single most expensive TV show ever made, it has also just added a host of movies to its library for us to enjoy until that show gets here.

Starting with…

AN AMERICAN PICKLE

Seth Rogen stars in this weird comedy drama about a man who gets preserved in a vat of pickles and wakes up a century later in modern-day New York, reuniting with his distant relative (also played by Rogen).

BLENDED

Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler prove the third time is not the charm (after the likeable The Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates), in this dire rom-com about two single parents forced to go on a holiday together.

BLOODRAYNE

Literally one of the worst movies ever made. Probably worth watching just for that reason.

BULLET TO THE HEAD

Sylvester Stallone stars as an assassin forced to work with a cop (Sung Kang) in order to take down a corrupt businessman before his assassin (Jason Momoa) takes them out. 46% on Rotten Tomatoes.

THE DOUBLE

Jesse Eisenberg stars in this darkly comedic sci-fi thriller directed by Richard Ayoade, about a man who finds himself being haunted by his own doppleganger.

GET SMART

Steve Carrell, Anne Hathaway and The Rock star in this big budget adaptation of the much-loved spy show. It’s totally fine.

THE GREATEST

Pierce Brosnan, Susan Sarandon, Carey Mulligan and Aaron Taylor-Johnson star in this forgettable drama about a family attempting to remain together following a tragic death.

HACKSAW RIDGE

Mel Gibson directs this WWII epic about a soldier (Andrew Garfield) who is willing to go to the frontline of battle, but due to his religious beliefs, refuses to carry a weapon. 84% on Rotten Tomatoes.

I, ROBOT

Will Smith stars in this entertaining sci-fi action mystery about a detective tasked with getting to the bottom of the first murder committed by a robot.

THE MASK

One of three movies in 1994 – along with Dumb & Dumber and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective – that sent Jim Carrey into the stratosphere of Hollywood fame.

MEMORY

The director of Goldeneye and Casino Royale teams up with Liam Neeson for this watchable revenge thriller about an assassin trying to finish a job before his aggressive form of dementia sets in.

MISS SLOANE

Jessica Chastain headlines this political thriller about a powerful lobbyist who has her personal life blown apart by opposing parties. 76% on Rotten Tomatoes.

THE PRESTIGE

Christopher Nolan directs this tale of battling magicians – Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman – who will go to any lengths to perform the ultimate illusion.

PRISONERS

A very good but very dark psychological thriller about a father (Hugh Jackman) who captures and tortures a man (Paul Dano) who he believes has kidnapped his daughter, while a detective (Jake Gyllenhaal) also tries to solve the missing girl case.

ROCKNROLLA

Guy Ritchie directs an impressive cast – Gerard Butler, Tom Wilkinson, Thandiwe Newton, Mark Strong, Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, Toby Kebbell, Jeremy Piven and Ludacris – in this entertaining crime thriller.

SPEED

One of the greatest action movies ever made.

SPEED 2: CRUISE CONTROL

Not one of the greatest action movies ever made.

SPOTLIGHT

An incredible cast – Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton, Rachel McAdams, John Slattery, and Stanley Tucci, with Brian d’Arcy James, Liev Schreiber and Billy Crudup – feature in this true-life drama about a group of journalists who uncover decades of abuse cover-ups within the Catholic church.

TOMB RAIDER

Alicia Vikander is great as Lara Croft in this decent video game adaptation.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
