A brand new Sci-Fi film festival kicks off in Dublin with a 4K restoration of The Fifth Element

Rory Cashin

Science fiction fans rejoice, as Dublin will soon be getting the first festival dedicated to the mind-bending genre.

Running from 5 to 7 May, the festival will kick off with a special 4k restoration of The Fifth Element to celebrate the movie’s 20th anniversary.

Over the weekend there will be a mix of new movies, old classics and short films, and will be screened in The Lighthouse Cinema, as well as in the Generator Hostel (literally right across the road from The Lighthouse Cinema).

You can head to the official website here to get individual tickets, or pick up a Generator Pass which will allow holders to see anything that is being screened in the Hostel over the weekend.

We imagine the retro screenings of the likes of The Running Man, Barbarella and Forbidden Planet will sell out pretty quickly.

And if you’ve never had the joy of catching the day-glo cult classic of The Fifth Element on the big screen, we really can’t recommend it enough.

Bruce Willis when it still seemed like he cared about his career, Gary Oldman as a full on space-nazi, Chris Tucker screeching as the best radio host in all of space, and Milla Jovovich kicking ass in an orange wig.

And who could forget the space opera lady?!
