BREAKING NEWS: Irishman Fassbender in the running as the nominations for the 86th Academy Awards are announced

We're dusting down the Tux as we speak...

Following on from the recent Golden Globes ceremony, the glitz and glamour of the annual awards season is truly upon us as the nominations for this year’s Oscars have been announced.

Chris Hemsworth AKA Thor, everybody’s favourite L’Oreal-sponsored superhero, made the announcement in the past few minutes in a mini ceremony ahead of the massive ceremony which will be held on Sunday March 2nd in the Dolby Theatre in LA and which will be hosted by one of JOE’s favourite funny females, Ellen DeGeneres.

JOE is currently trying to frantically book that date off work as we’ll inevitably be invited to the event as Ellen’s plus one. We’re sure we’ll receive an e-invite or fax or letter-by-pigeon or something in just a moment or two.

Aaaaany minute now…

Irishman Michael Fassbender has bagged himself a well-deserved nomination for his terrifyingly terrific performance as Epps in 12 Years A Slave. He will, however, be up against the Academy Awards machine that is TWO TIME OSCAR NOMINEE JONAH HILL.

Now there’s a sentence nobody thought they’d ever have to write.

Bono and the boys, following on from their recent success at the Golden Globes, have also picked up a nomination for their song ‘Ordinary Love’ from the soundtrack to Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom.

Here are the nominations in full:
