The cast of Godzilla vs. Kong reveal their reactions to THAT new character

Rory Cashin

‘We were on this massive set, and it was all very surreal.’

If you’re a fan of the MonsterVerse, and you’re already excited about the impending release of Godzilla vs. Kong, then chances are you already know which character we’re talking about in that headline.

But if not, we’re not going to spoil it for you. It is safe to say that the three previous MonsterVerse movies – Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island, and Godzilla: King of the Monsters – have introduced some BIG names already, and the latest entry doesn’t let that side down at all.

In the run-up to the release of the movie, we were lucky enough to chat to some of the stars of the movie, and you can check out our full interview with Brian Tyree Henry and Julian Dennison right here:

Of course, we had to ask – in the most spoiler-free way possible – how did they react to the introduction of that new character, from how it happened when they first got the script, right up to the introduction scene itself in the finished movie.

Julian Dennison told us that “Without spoilers, I think, I remember reading it, and I went “What the heck?? Who is that??” I went “Who and the what in the…??” And I remember being on set, we were in this massive set, and yeah, I remember just kind of… “This is all very surreal”, in the moment, I guess that is how I kind of felt.”

Meanwhile, Brian Tyree Henry added that while the scene was serious, they still managed to have a lot of fun with it:

“Also, we did a lot of improving in this movie. Like, a lot of improving, just because we always play with each other. And I remember this particular scene, and there were so many takes of how Julian and I [laughs] played with how we were going to introduce what this was, and what was about to happen.

“And I just remember, every time, I just kept breaking, because Julian would do these different variations of how he was going to say this line. What they chose finally was still great, but we had a lot of fun trying to figure out how to say this line, and just improving left and right about how to bring that to the story. It was fun, it was a lot of fun.”

The movie premiere of Godzilla vs. Kong will be available to rent at home from Thursday, 1 April.
