The visuals in this are absolutely amazing.

Today marks World Oceans Day – a global day of ocean celebration.

The day intends to provide an opportunity to honour, to help protect, and conserve the world’s shared oceans.

With the discussion about climate change becoming more and more serious by the day, Sir David Attenborough talks about the significance of the ocean, with regards to the future of our planet.

The video itself is genuinely beautiful, but so are the words that Attenborough says throughout: “The presence of the ocean touches every living thing, no matter where it lives… Nowhere is more powerful and unforgiving, yet more beautiful, and endlessly fascinating… Yet for too long, we have taken the ocean for granted.”

Watch it for yourself here:

Attenborough finishes the video with the simple, rousing, inspiring message: “We all need a healthy ocean. So we must change our ways.”

According to World Ocean Day: “A healthy world ocean is critical to our survival. Every year, World Oceans Day provides a unique opportunity to honor, help protect, and conserve our world’s shared ocean. The ocean is important because it:

  • Generates most of the oxygen we breathe
  • Helps feed us
  • Regulates our climate
  • Cleans the water we drink
  • Offers a pharmacopoeia of medicines
  • Provides limitless inspiration!”
