Scrubs is one of the best TV shows that has come out in recent years. For its fans, it is the only show that can come close to Friends in terms of longevity and the overall love that we have for the characters. Whether it's JD's innocence, Turk's arrogance or Elliot's craziness that you love, you can't deny that there is one big dog in Sacred Heart Hospital. The man who calls the shots. He's a teacher. He's a great doctor. He's a lunatic. He is Doctor Perry Cox. And he's brilliant. Let's start with his rants. His legendary rants. Although he is a smart man, patience is not one of his greater traits. Everyone in the entire world annoys him on a daily basis, and he is not the type to keep his rage to himself. Whether he is listing things that annoy him more than JD, less than JD, as much as JD, there is one common denominator between the extravagant rants. They are hilarious. Even though he often leaves it until the last minute, just to torture his peons as much as possible, he nearly always comes through in the end. He is as wise as he is crazy, and he has an answer for absolutely everything. JD comes to him with any little problem he has, and although he ridicules him, he nearly always has the goods. His life lessons shape the majority of the main characters and help them transform into the mature (I use that term very loosely) adults that they are now. And when he has to get serious, he has no problem doing so. This version of Perry has provided us with some of the most depressing moments in TV history. Some of these scenes would have you questioning whether or not the show was meant to be a comedy at all. It shows us that the man is a deeply troubled, borderline depressed man. He is not the superhero that JD thinks he is. He has serious issues. JD adores him, and Dr. Cox... Well the feeling isn't exactly mutual. When he isn't calling him a girl's name, he is taking the piss out of him some other way. But the moments where they share a genuine, beautiful moment, make the show what it is. It is these scenes that push it above and beyond other comedies. We actually feel the relationship between them. We, as the audience, know exactly how they really feel about each other. Even though Cox would like us to believe there is nothing more than a professional relationship going on, we know that they need each other. These are the moments that show us the real Dr. Cox. We see past the bravado, the rants, the anger.
