Its star is part of the cast of a big Netflix show.
Staying in this Saturday night (February 17)? Well, not to worry as here are the movies airing on TV this evening.
Full Time – BBC Four – 9pm
Our pick for tonight is this French drama thriller about a single mother named Julie (Call My Agent’s Laure Calamy), who works a gruelling job as a head chambermaid in a five-star Parisian hotel.
Julie’s life – which includes commuting from her remote suburb into Paris, trying to organise childcare and searching for a new job to get her out of debt – becomes increasingly unmanageable during a paralysing transport strike in the French capital.
As Julie is pushed towards the verge of a breakdown, she finally gets an interview for a better job. However, this only adds to the single mother’s stress as she must rely on her co-workers in her current job to cover for her as she sneaks out as part of her efforts to secure the other position.
Having received a limited Irish cinema release just last May, Full Time holds a near perfect 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Singled out for praise have been Calamy’s authentic and likeable performance, the movie’s societal commentary and the intense direction of Eric Gravel, with the latter elevating the anxiety and struggles Julie and many like her face into feeling like a full-on thriller.
Drawing comparisons in tone to Uncut Gems, Full Time is also available to rent on Apple TV, Curzon and Rakuten TV. You can watch the trailer for the film right here:
