This sounds really good.
In recent years, we’ve seen some very good films about various aspects of The Troubles. ’71 was absolutely brilliant, Fifty Dead Men Walking was incredibly gripping and Maze was a very stylish account of that particular prison break-out.
Now that he’s freed from Fifty Shades Freed, Jamie Dornan will be looking to build on his impressive turns in The Siege of Jadotville and Anthropoid with his new film.
The Belfast man will star opposite Sam Claflin in the IRA action thriller Borderland, which Brian Kirk (Game Of Thrones, Luther) will direct.
The film is set in London during the ’70s and it’s described as being in the vein of Michael Mann’s crime thriller Heat. Yikes, no pressure there!
When an IRA operative (Dornan) is dispatched to London to head a new unit, he uses the move to hunt down the person that’s responsible for the accidental lethal shooting of his wife – an SAS captain (Claflin )who happens to be hunting the Irishman.
Kirk has a solid reputation as a director having filmed the first two episodes of Luther and three Game of Thrones episodes – The Wolf and the Lion, Lord Snow, and Cripples, Bastards, and Broken Things are all his work.
He’s also helmed episodes of Boardwalk Empire, Penny Dreadful, Dexter, and The Tudors among many others.
Production on Borderland is scheduled to start this summer in London and Dublin.
As for Dornan’s next major project, he’s going to be seen in Otto Bathurst’s Robin Hood: Origins.
