Could Harry Styles really become the next James Bond?

Definitely an idea that will divide opinions.

The next James Bond is one topic guaranteed to split opinions, since there is a general disagreement over how the character should be treated in this day and age.

On the one hand, there is fierce support behind getting Idris Elba in to play the first black 007, which is certainly an idea the actor has discussed publicly, even if he remains coy on the matter.

Then, there are suggestions that we should see Gillian Anderson or Kristen Stewart take up the role. Do away with the tux entirely and make Bond such a good covert agent that he could just as easily be a she.

The hot tip for the eighth James Bond has been Tom Hardy, although the chances of this actually seem pretty slim unless Dunkirk and Dark Knight director, Christopher Nolan is at the helm of the 27th installation in the franchise.

However, it would seem a spanner has been thrown into the works (interpret that as you may), when Lee Smith, editor of Spectre, mentioned Harry Styles as a contender.

“Harry could do it. If they wanted a younger Bond then why not? He has got it,” Smith is reported to have said during a recent interview.

A controversial choice, but Smith came to his defence by saying Styles’ role in Nolan’s WW2 epic, Dunkirk showed his potential despite a lack of experience.

“You would never know that was his first film,” he added. “You would have thought you were dealing with a guy with many years of experience.”
