Here’s your first look at Season 2 of The Young Offenders

Young Offenders Season 2

Conor and Jock are back.

It’s fitting that the very first scene in The Young Offenders TV show saw Cork’s biggest langers jumping off a roof because the season finale saw them looking to jump off a bus, however, the circumstances were very different!

Well, we’re delighted to say that it’s time to jump back into the world of The Young Offenders because Season 2 of Peter Foott’s wonderful comedy is filming and they’ve released the very first image.

Of course, we were treated to the recent Christmas special but Conor, Jock, Billy, Mairead, Siobhan, Linda, Sergeant Healy, and everyone else is back with some new episodes that will be airing later this year.

After the Season 1 finale, it’s possible that every single person on Leeside has been saying ‘I’m Billy Murphy’ when asked their name but as you can see in the snap, Conor and Jock are still the most popular faces in town.

Much like the first season, the interest in the new episodes is through the roof after a recent casting search for extras resulted in thousands of applications.

Since the lads last appeared on our screens at Christmas, things have been going very well because Chris Walley (Jock) won the Best Supporting Actor award at the Olivier Awards in London.

The prestigious Oliviers are regarded as the Oscars of British theatre and the Cork native won the award for his role in Martin McDonagh’s The Lieutenant of Inishmore, which ran in the West End in 2018.

Before the Christmas special aired, JOE had the chance to chat with the stars of the show and Alex Murphy (Conor) hinted that Season 2 might see some changes being introduced.

Again, the scripts for Season 2 weren’t even completed yet, but it does provide an interesting insight into where the show might be going.

“Peter doesn’t hold onto ideas that tightly if they’re not right. He has no problems changing up the whole structure of the story. Conor and Jock could be somewhere else in Season 2. Then again, it could also be the same in Season 2. It depends on what he wants,” he said.

After being asked about what he’d like to see happen in Season 2, Murphy suggested that he’d like to see the lads go on another road trip, just like they did in the film.

“I wouldn’t mind another big road trip, like we had in the film. In Season 1, we didn’t leave the city a whole lot.”

Well, we know that Jock is going to become a father, so that’s bound to be interesting!

During a previous interview, JOE chatted to Jennifer Barry (Siobhan) and we had to ask her what she’d love to see happening in Season 2.

“I’d love to see Mairead and Sgt Healy continue to date because they really seem to bring out the best in each other and they’re a very cute couple. God, a wedding in the show would be great. Could you imagine what Conor and Jock would be like at a wedding?

“I’d also love to see more of Billy Murphy in the show because I think that he’s a great character that’s just a little bit misunderstood. Also, I think we’re (Conor and Jock) going into fourth year now in the show so they would probably be working somewhere,” she said.

Whatever happens, it’s bound to be a blast.
