"But the glamour of 1960s London is not all it appears to be and the dreams of the past start to crack and splinter into something far darker," the plot synopsis adds.
Last Night in Soho's supporting cast includes '60s icons Diana Rigg (On Her Majesty's Secret Service), Rita Tushingham (A Taste of Honey) and Terence Stamp (The Limey). This is alongside Matt Smith (House of the Dragon), Pauline McLynn (Father Ted) and Sam Claflin (Lazarus).
The movie retains Wright's trademark stylish direction and clear love of music. Yet, the film also marked fresh territory for the director, with its story being darker and less comedic than his previous work.
McKenzie and Taylor-Joy's lead turns and Wright's gorgeous recreation of Swinging Sixties London make the horror thriller worth seeking out, even if its plot does grow overly convoluted.
Last Night in Soho is on TV tonight on Film4 at 11.50pm. The movie will also be available to stream for free on Channel 4's website after it airs.
