A true crime documentary epic is among the movies on TV tonight

It’s from the director of some of the biggest documentaries of recent years.

Prime Video has just added 27 very big movies to its library but if none of these are for you, here are the films airing on TV this evening:

Dunkirk – BBC Three – 9pm

Christopher Nolan depicts a pivotal WWII event with his trademark bravura filmmaking and time-shuffling storytelling.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull – Film4 – 9pm

With Harrison Ford’s final outing as Indiana Jones out in cinemas today, what better time to revisit this much-maligned (although I’d argue quite fun) fourth entry in the franchise.

Out for Justice – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

Steven Seagal plays a cop in this ’90s thriller that is… out for justice.

The Titan – Horror Xtra – 9pm

Avatar’s Sam Worthington leads the cast of this sci-fi thriller about a family in the near future who participates in an experiment into man’s genetic evolution in space.

Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie – RTÉ One – 9.35pm

Agnes Brown (Brendan O’Carroll) heads to d’big screen.

Whitey: United States of America v. James J. Bulger – TG4 – 10.30pm

Our pick for tonight is this 2014 documentary detailing the trials of infamous Boston crime boss James ‘Whitey’ Bulger (who served as an inspiration for Jack Nicholson’s character in gangster film The Departed), while also examining his controversial relationship with the FBI.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Joe Berlinger (the Paradise Lost trilogy, Netflix’s anthology shows Conversations with a Killer and Crime Scene), Whitey earned an 80% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes upon release. In particular, reviewers praised the movie for its epic scope and its portrait of corruption on both sides of the law.

You can watch a trailer for the documentary right here:

John Carpenter’s Vampires – Legend – 10.35pm

James Woods is a mean and tough vampire hunter in this fun Western horror from legendary filmmaker John Carpenter.

The Exorcist: The Version You’ve Never Seen – Turner Classic Movies – 10.55pm

A different cut of one of the best horrors ever made.

The Humanity Bureau – Horror Xtra – 10.55pm

Nicolas Cage stars in this 2017 dystopian thriller.

Texas Chainsaw – Sky Sci-Fi – 11pm

A 2013 sequel to the classic ’70s horror The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country – Film4 – 11.25pm

The final movie in the Star Trek franchise featuring the entire main cast of the original television series.
