Some genuinely brilliant Prime Video additions this week!
Huge action, murder mysteries and lots and lots of dancing recently added to your Prime Video library…
THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK
One of the many attempts by Mister Vin Diesel to get his own franchise off the ground, this mega-budgeted sequel to Pitch Black puts him in the middle of a very violent Star Wars space epic. Despite being a total mess, there is actually A LOT to enjoy here.
CONSTANTINE
Keanu Reeves headlines this very entertaining supernatural action horror, which is equal parts Doctor Strange and The Exorcist. A long-delayed sequel is in the works, but one of its biggest stars hasn’t been asked back.
GET HARD
Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart star in this painfully unfunny comedy about a guy preparing himself for prison. Avoid.
GODZILLA VS KONG
The big lizard and the big monkey get into a big fight, and entire cities get flattened in the process. Very fun. We chatted to the movie’s stars Brian Tyree Henry and Julian Dennison about the blockbuster, and you can check out that interview in full right here:
HOW TO BE SINGLE
Dakota Johnson, Rebel Wilson, Alison Brie and Leslie Mann put a good spin on the romantic comedy genre, by showing the parts in between all of the falling in love montages.
PITCH BLACK
The very good action horror with Vin Diesel as a dangerous space criminal who crash lands on a planet filled with nocturnal creatures.
JUPITER ASCENDING
The creators of The Matrix wanted to do their version of Star Wars, drafting in Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis for the big screen action. Some of it is very pretty, but most of it… just isn’t all that good.
L.A. CONFIDENTIAL
One of the greatest crime movies ever made, with Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce, Kim Basinger, Danny DeVito, Kevin Spacey and more caught up in a horrific series of murders set against the Golden Age of Hollywood.
STEP UP
Channing Tatum danced his way into our collective hearts in this first one, which is an okay movie. Prime Video has also added Step Up 2 The Streets, Step Up Revolution (aka the fourth one), and Step Up 5: All In. If you’re thinking “Hey, did Prime Video also add Step Up 3D?”, the answer is no. No they did not. Apologies to all Step Up completionists out there.
THE TOWN
Ben Affleck directs and stars in this brilliant romantic thriller, playing the leader of a group of professional bank robbers, but who falls in love with one of the hostages (Rebecca Hall) at his latest heist.
TROY
For anyone who thought Gladiator wasn’t trashy or homoerotic enough, here is a glistening, golden Brad Pitt nearly naked for most of this fantastically entertaining war epic.
ZODIAC
David Fincher’s true-crime masterpiece, with Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo and Jake Gyllenhaal investigating one of the most notorious serial killers in American history.
