Byrne's announcement follows his co-host Jenny Greene's this morning.

Westlife member Nicky Byrne has announced that he is leaving RTÉ 2FM after 5 years working at the radio station. This follows the news that his co-host Jenny Greene would also be leaving the station. Byrne stated that 2019 was going to be a particularly busy year for him, as he will be touring with Westlife, and recording a new album. In his farewell statement, the Dublin man thanked his listeners for giving him their attention throughout the years, saying: "I would like to say to our incredibly loyal listeners, I will miss you all dearly. My mid mornings will never be the same and have changed dramatically over the last five years and I hope yours have too!"
