One of the most underrated action movies ever is among the movies on TV tonight

Stephen Porzio

It saw the director of True Romance and the writer behind Lethal Weapon teaming up.

Stuck for something to watch tonight? Not to worry, as there’s a couple of great movies airing on television this evening.

Below JOE has picked out its recommendations.

The Last Boy Scout – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

Our pick for tonight focuses on a private detective (Bruce Willis) assigned to protect a female witness (a young Halle Berry). When she is murdered, the detective (Bruce Willis) and the victim’s former football player boyfriend (Damon Wayans) investigate the crime that leads to a corrupt politician and a crooked football team owner.

This criminally underrated 90’s buddy cop action-comedy benefits from glossy direction from the late and great Tony Scott (Man on Fire, True Romance) and a wicked, darkly funny script from Shane Black (Lethal Weapon, The Nice Guys).

JOE has raved about the movie before in a full article, which you can read here.

Shooter – Film Four – 9pm

A marksman (Mark Wahlberg) living in exile is coaxed back into action after learning of a plot to kill the President. After being double-crossed for the attempt and on the run, he sets out for the real killer and the truth.

Shooter is ludicrous if watchable thanks to its action set-pieces and the cast involved. That said, it is no The Last Boy Scout.

Bram Stoker’s Dracula – Horror Channel – 10.40pm

The centuries-old vampire Count Dracula (Gary Oldman) comes to England to seduce his barrister Jonathan Harker’s (Keanu Reeves) fiancée Mina Murray (Winona Ryder) and inflict havoc on the foreign land.

Directed by Francis Ford Coppola (Apocalypse Now, The Godfather trilogy), this is the definitive take on Bram Stoker’s classic – capturing it in all its gothic glory.

Shampoo – True Movies – 11.05pm

On Election Day, 1968, a hairdresser and ladies’ man (Warren Beatty) is too busy cutting hair and dealing with his various girlfriends and his mistress, whose husband he meets and finds out is having an affair with his ex-girlfriend.

Directed by Hal Ashby (Being There, The Last Detail), this 70’s satirical comedy-drama boasts an all-star cast including Goldie Hawn, Julie Christie and Carrie Fisher in her film debut.

Eagle Eye – Film Four – 11.25pm

Eagle Eye follows two strangers (Michelle Monaghan, Shia LaBeouf) who must go on the run together after receiving a mysterious phone call from an unknown woman who is using information and communications technology to track them.

Like Shooter, Eagle Eye is a preposterous but pacy thriller.
