A first trailer has been unveiled for Paul Mescal and Saoirse Ronan starring sci-fi thriller Foe.

Based on a novel by Iain Reid (I’m Thinking of Ending Things), the movie sees the Oscar nominated Irish actors play a married couple living on a secluded piece of land in the year 2065.

However, the pair’s quiet life is thrown into turmoil when an uninvited stranger (Aaron Pierre, Old) shows up at their door with a startling proposal.

Directed by Garth Davis (Lion), who also co-wrote the thriller alongside Reid, Foe’s distributor Amazon Studios has promised that the film’s “mesmerising imagery and persistent questions about the nature of humanity (and artificial humanity) bring the not-too-distant future to luminous life”.

Meanwhile, speaking to JOE last year, Ronan said about the project and working with Mescal:

“I would say to him all the time just how proud I was that the two of us, these two young Irish actors, were leading a movie and also, I thought there was something kind of cool about it not being a movie that was set in Ireland.

“It wasn’t about being Irish. We were just two actors that were chosen to lead this film together. I don’t know how often that’s actually happened. So, there’s something very exciting about that.”
