Arthur Shelby has been talking about Stephen Graham taking the role. We’d love to see this.
Like a sip of Tommy Shelby’s newly distilled gin that’s snatched away from us, Peaky Blinders fans have been left wanting more about what Season 5 has in store. In case you’re not up to date with the most recent season, consider this to be your spoiler alert.
After Paul Anderson informed us all that the Shelbys are going to take full advantage of Tommy’s newfound political clout, Paul Anderson has also been speaking about the intriguing possibility of a meeting between Birmingham’s most notorious gangster and a certain Mr. Al Capone.
As stated before, Peaky Blinders fans are absolutely pumped at the possibility of Tommy supplying alcohol for the most infamous gangster of the Prohibition Era and it’s clear who the fans want to play Capone.
During his run in Boardwalk Empire, Stephen Graham excelled in the role and plenty of people want Steven Knight to cast the This Is England star in the new season.
Regarding the introduction of Capone’s mob, Paul Anderson (Arthur) is definitely in favour of it.
In an interview with Digital Spy, he said: “That’d be great. The period [the series is set in] now, he was running Chicago, New York, it was him… and Michael is over there, he’s making friends with him, so it would be great if we had that introduction to the mob.”
Anderson has said that he’s not entirely sure if that’s the direction Steven Knight will pursue though. “That’s the thing with the show and the writing. You can try and predict how it’ll be, but I’ve never been right. I’ve never got it right! I’ve thought, ‘Oh, next season, we’ll probably do this…’ and Steven [Knight, series creator and writer] has a way of surprising you. It’s never obvious. It’s great, I love that. So we’ll see, I don’t know,” he said.
As for the possibility of Graham playing Capone again, Anderson was slightly skeptical. ” Nah, I don’t think it’ll work, will it? Stevie would be perfect – I mean, Stevie is great as Al Capone, and he’s a friend of mine and he’s a great actor – but it just wouldn’t work, because he already plays him in that TV show. I don’t think that could work. It’d be like him coming in from Boardwalk Empire, it’d be like crossing shows. People would probably like that, but then it might be a little bit strange, or weird. Which is a shame, because he would be great [otherwise].”
Sadly, Peaky Blinders fans will have to wait until 2019 but truth be told, we don’t care how long the wait is because if they can somehow top Season 4 then it will be entirely worth it!
