In terms of the most emotional moments in film history, the finale of E.T. is right up there.
Genuinely, if you can look at Gertie (Drew Barrymore) in that scene and not well up, you're colder than E.T. when he was left down at the riverbed.
Of course, Spielberg's classic revolved around the relationship between Elliott (Henry Thomas) and everyone's favourite alien. Want to know two words that will absolutely break every the heart of every film fan?
'Come' and 'stay.'
You know what they mean, and not even Mr. Burns' cynical ripoff could ruin that tender moment!
Well, almost 37 years since original release, Sky has continued this beloved story of friendship by reuniting the E.T. with Elliott.Granted, plenty of things have changed since E.T. left Earth for his home planet, mainly the fact that Elliott now has a family. The advert sees E.T. returning while telling the story of their unbreakable connection using technology from Sky.
Although technology has changed our world since they last saw each other, their friendship remains strong and is a touching reminder of how important reconnecting is at Christmas.
Stephen van Rooyen, CEO UK & Ireland, Sky said: "It’s an honour to bring E.T. back to Earth in this new festive short story, helping us to celebrate the magic of family time at Christmas and Sky’s part in bringing our customers together at this special time of year."
Somehow, we don't think that E.T. would phone home now. He'd probably WhatsApp, but that doesn't have the same ring to it, does it?
Anyway, take a look at a reunion that's 37 years in the making.
The broadcaster also announced their Christmas lineup and you can view that here.
