Amazon Prime Video has just added 51 big movies to its library

Rory Cashin

Yes. You read that correctly. Fifty-one additions.

On top of the big original releases coming to Amazon Prime Video through July, the platform has also just added A LOT of classic movies to its library this week.

Actually, “classic” only applies to some of these. You’ve definitely heard of them all though, and if there are any you’ve missed, now is your chance to catch up on them.

Starting with…

127 HOURS

James Franco gets his arm caught under a rock in Danny Boyle’s decent real-life thriller.

3:10 TO YUMA

A very good western starring Russell Crowe and Christian Bale.

A FEW GOOD MEN

Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson and Demi Moore may or may not be able to handle the truth in this iconic courtroom drama.

A GOOD YEAR

Russell Crowe again, but as a (checks notes) vineyard owner? 25% on Rotten Tomatoes.

ARGO

Ben Affleck directs and stars in this very good real-life thriller about a group of government agents who fake a Hollywood blockbuster in order to save a group of hostages.

THE BLING RING

Emma Watson headlines this based-on-a-true-story crime drama about a group of teenagers who break into celebrity’s homes and take all of their stuff.

BORAT

A powerful, heart-wrenching drama……… NOT!

BRAVEHEART

Mel Gibson’s historical epic won five Oscars, even if his Scottish accent could do with a little bit more work.

BRINGING DOWN THE HOUSE

Steve Martin and Queen Latifah co-star in this fun but forgettable comedy.

CATS

Literally one of the worst movies ever made. A must-watch.

CHICKEN RUN

Mel Gibson again, this time providing voice work for a much-loved animated comedy.

CRASH (2004)

Not the good one, about car accident sex. The bad one, about racism.

DASHCAM

One of the most controversial horrors of recent years. A fellow JOE writer said: “Most hateful main character possibly of all time, from moment one.” But maybe that is the point? Watch it and see.

DATE NIGHT

The brilliant pairing of Steve Carrell and Tina Fey deserved better than this.

THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW

Global warming is happening, and only Dennis Quaid can save the day. And by the day, we mean his son Jake Gyllenhaal.

DEN OF THIEVES

Gerard Butler, Pablo Schreiber and 50 Cent star in this very dumb but very fun action thriller. We recently caught up with Schreiber for his new show HALO, which you can check out right here:

THE DESCENDANTS

George Clooney headlines this very good comedy-drama, looking after his estranged kids (one of whom is Shailene Woodley) when their mother slips into a coma.

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA

Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.

DIRTY DANCING

Patrick Swayze swizzles his hips into a flurry in adored 80s musical drama.

DODGEBALL

If you can dodge a wrench…

THE DUCHESS

Keira Knightley stars as 18th-century aristocrat Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire, in this very average biopic.

DUNE (1984)

The original David Lynch adaptation. A gorgeous, weird, sometimes boring movie.

END OF WATCH

Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena star in this messy but very watchable police thriller.

ENEMY AT THE GATES

A Russian (Jude Law) and a German (Ed Harris) sniper play a game of cat and mouse during the Battle of Stalingrad. Bang average.

FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS

Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant are having a ball in this fun biopic about the world’s worst singer.

GOLD

Matthew McConaughey believes he may have found a way to tap into a source of gold deep within the jungles of Indonesia. He’s great in a movie that can’t keep up with him.

GONE IN 60 SECONDS

The Rock, Con Air and Face/Off are Cage’s trilogy of legendary action movies. Rewatch one of those instead.

THE HELP

Viola Davis, Emma Stone, Bryce Dallas Howard and Octavia Spencer star in this drama, which does have its heart in the right place, even if it hasn’t aged particularly well…

HOOK

Spielberg and Robin Williams try to update Peter Pan. It doesn’t go well. Dustin Hoffman is great as Captain Hook, though.

IN THE LOOP

Political comedy from the creator of The Thick Of It and VEEP. More timely with each passing year.

THE IRON LADY

Meryl Streep won one of her three Oscars for her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher. She’s great. The movie is only okay.

LARRY CROWNE

Did you know Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts starred in this movie? And Tom Hanks also directed it? And it is a rom-com? And it came out in 2011? Arguably one of the least-memorable movies ever made to star people as famous as these.

THE LAWNMOWER MAN

Wanna know what cutting edge special effects looked like in 1992? Then check out this Stephen King adaptation, starring Pierce Brosnan.

MONSTER

Charlie Theron won the Oscar for her portrayal of serial killer Aileen Wuornos.

THE OTHER GUYS

Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg star in an above-average buddy cop comedy.

REQUIEM FOR A DREAM

If you’re looking for a guaranteed bad time, then check out Darren Aranofsky’s magnificently grim drama.

RESERVOIR DOGS

Tarantino’s first movie, still one of his best.

SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END OF THE WORLD

A comet is about to hit to the planet, so Steve Carrell and Keira Knightley head off on a road trip together before the end of days. A solid three-star effort.

SHAUN THE SHEEP MOVIE

Wordless animated comedy that the kids (and most adults) will probably love.

SISTER ACT

The good one.

SISTER ACT 2: BACK IN THE HABIT

The bad one.

SOURCE CODE

A head-melting sci-fi thriller with Jake Gyllenhaal attempting to stop a terrorist attack after it has already happened…

SPREAD

Ashton Kutcher stars as a well-kept gigolo who may have just fallen for the wrong woman…

TERMINATOR SALVATION

Yes, it is incredibly messy at times (what the hell is with the Helena Bonham Carter AI?), but there are still some great set-pieces in this Christian Bale/Sam Worthington sci-fi sequel.

THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (1974)

The original, literally one of the greatest horror movies of all time.

TOTAL RECALL (2012)

The remake. Not terrible, but also not good.

UNDERWORLD: BLOOD WARS

The fifth and final of the Underworld movies. Oddly, the other four Underworld movies (but not this one) were just added to Netflix

VENOM

Tom Hardy headlines a goopy Spider-Man spin-off.

WIMBLEDON

Kirsten Dunst and Paul Bettany fall in love, but also tennis is involved. Love-all?

WIND RIVER

A chilly murder mystery with Jeremy Renner and Elisabeth Olsen.

YEAR ONE

Jack Black and Michael Cera star in a prehistoric comedy.
