Prime Video has quietly added 30 very big movies to its library

Rory Cashin

Prime Video has cracked open the Christmas movie vault with these additions…

There are a lot of movies added to Amazon Prime Video to get through here, so let us get straight to it…

A BAD MOM’S CHRISTMAS

Mila Kunis, Katherine Hahn and Kristen Bell reunite for this raunchy comedy about a group of misbehaving mothers. But it’s set at Christmas this time.

BAD SANTA 2

Considering how great the first one was, it is kind of shocking just how, er, bad this one turned out to be.

BAD TEACHER

Cameron Diaz is the titular sub-par educator, who tries to turn it all around in order to impress a new co-worker, played by Justin Timberlake. But doesn’t she see that loveable P.E. teacher Jason Segel is right there??

BASIC INSTINCT

Arguably still the pinnacle of the erotic thriller genre, even though it was released 30 years ago this year.

BUTT BOY

A detective investigates a case that involves a man who… well… can make things disappear up his butt. You’ll either absolutely love or absolutely hate this movie. There will be no in-between.

CHRISTMAS WITH THE KRANKS

Jamie Lee Curtis and Tim Allen headline this Christmas movie about a couple who decide they don’t want to celebrate this year… until their daughter shows up at the last minute. 5% on Rotten Tomatoes, just FYI.

THE COMMUTER

One of the many, MANY Liam Neeson-in-trouble action thrillers, this time on board a train, where he is forced to take part in a very dangerous mission.

EASY A

Emma Stone stars in this great teenage comedy about a high-schooler who finds herself living through a real-life version of The Scarlet Letter.

FOUR CHRISTMASES

Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn try to get through four separate Christmases with their separated parents as quickly as possible.

THE GRINCH / HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS

Both the not-great Benedict Cumberbatch-voiced animated version, and the actually-pretty-great Jim Carrey-starring live-action version have been added.

THE HATEFUL EIGHT

Tarantino’s worst movie. Don’t @ me. It is still pretty good, mind.

THE HURT LOCKER

An incredibly tense Iraq war thriller, telling the story of a bomb disposal expert (Jeremy Renner) who remains on the edge of life and death on a daily basis.

JACK & JILL

Adam Sandler helps create one of the worst movies ever. Well done everyone.

JACK FROST

Michael Keaton plays a snowman who comes back to visit his family after he has passed away. It’s supposed to be a cute family movie, but it feels like it is one degree away from being a horror.

THE MISEDUCATION OF CAMERON POST

Chloe Grace Moretz stars in this powerful drama about a teenage girl sent to a gay conversion therapy centre.

NEW YEAR’S EVE

Remember when Hollywood went nuts for those seasonally-themed movies that seemed to star absolutely everyone, and they were absolute nonsense rom-coms? Yeah, this was one of them.

THE NIGHT BEFORE

Seth Rogen, Anthony Mackie and Joseph Gordon-Levitt star in this very funny Christmas Eve-set comedy.

OFFICE CHRISTMAS PARTY

Loads of famous people star in this entertaining raunchy comedy about a, well, office Christmas party that quickly goes off the rails when everyone at it finds out they’re about to be fired.

ROBOCOP

Not the 1987 classic, but the actually-very-okay 2014 remake.

RUN SWEETHEART RUN

A brand-new Prime Video exclusive, in which a young woman (Ella Balinska) finds herself on the first date from hell. Will have you deleting Tinder before the end credits.

SEVEN POUNDS

Will Smith swung for the rafters in this Oscar-hopeful that didn’t quite hit the emotional mark the way it should have.

STEP BROTHERS

“Did you touch my drum set?”

SWEET HOME ALABAMA

Reese Witherspoon again, in a much better rom-com this time, returning home from New York to her home town in order to get her divorce papers signed. You can guess the ending from the first scene, but it is still very entertaining.

THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY

“Oh man! How’d you get the beans above the frank?!”

THE UNBEARABLE WEIGHT OF MASSIVE TALENT

The Nic Cage career resurgence continues strongly in what we previously called one of the best movies of 2022 so far.

UNSTOPPABLE

A train won’t stop. And only Denzel Washington and Chris Pine can maybe stop it. Based on a true story, believe it or not!

WAR HORSE

Spielberg wanted this war story about a boy and his horse to win all of the Oscars. It won zero. Despite that, it is still very watchable.

THE WATERBOY

Of the two Sandler movies on this list, this is the better one. Even if this one is basically just Happy Gilmore again, but with American football replacing golf.

WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING

A family takes shelter from a storm in what turns out to be a very spooky house. 56% on Rotten Tomatoes, so don’t expect it to rock your world, but could be a decently distracting 97 minutes.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
