Two words, puppy pistol.
While audiences in Ireland were extremely familiar with Sacha Baron Cohen’s comedy following his brilliant work on Da Ali Show, his global success with Borat really sent Baron Cohen’s stock into the stratosphere.
Of course, we’ve all seen with his unique and hilarious interviewing style before – say something stupid, supply enough rope and wait for the person to hang themselves with their own ridiculous answers – but since Borat’s cultural learnings of America made benefit glorious nation of Kazakhstan, the comedian has switched his focus.
Bruno, The Dictator, and The Brothers Grimsby are just some of this feature films that moved away from the social-political landscape of the U.S. but the comedian was back on familiar territory in Who Is America?
The first episode aired on Channel 4 last night and while not all the skits and characters tickled the funny bone – the interview with Bernie Sanders and the ex-con artist who turns his shit into pieces of art fell a bit flat – but one segment definitely got people talking.
If you saw the episode – or read our preview – you’ll know exactly what we’re talking about.
We’re intrigued to see what the second episode has in store.
Sacha Baron Cohen didn't "dupe" anyone in #WhoIsAmerica He merely put an insane idea in front of bought-and-paid-for NRA shills. They considered it only through the prism of the NRA, then responded the way they knew the NRA would want them to respond. Period.

#whoisamerica proves once again that @sachabaroncohen is the most brilliant, ballsy comedian on the planet

congratulations to @SachaBaronCohen for reminding us (hilariously) of how very very very stupid we are. That was just great. #WhoIsAmerica @Showtime

The cucks that scream this country is too PC will likely display their usual hypocrisy tonight after @SachaBaronCohen has exposed the heinous truth behind our country’s elected grifters. This show, like comedy at its best, is the truth. #WhoIsAmerica?

#WhoIsAmerica has got to be scripted… Right?

#WhoIsAmerica – good satire, sort of funny, mostly infuriating to think that if Trump watched it he’d be tweeting about arming toddlers with handguns.

Sacha Baron Cohen literally should win a Pulitzer for this. #WhoIsAmerica

"pheromone blink 182" – straight out of the Chris Morris playbook. Genius. #WhoIsAmerica

Gotta feel sorry for Sacha Baron Cohen. On the day he debuts #whoisamerica– a programme in which he goes to great efforts to trick politicos into saying the most outrageous things – he's outshone by the US president saying he trusts an ex-KGB agent over the CIA. #NoJoke

You have to watch this show! It’s the best comedy of the year with incredible social commentary! @Showtime #whoisamerica pic.twitter.com/QweX4TtfB8

Going out on a limb here, but probably safe to say – any elected official who was duped to appear in the new @SachaBaronCohen series #WhoIsAmerica on @Showtime should be permanently disqualified from ever receiving classified information.

Liberals are pushing their "anti-tragedy agenda." #WhoIsAmerica is brilliant.
And it's downright spine-chilling to see Republicans support arming toddlers. https://t.co/O7vmeCB0qg
