VIDEO: The full-length version of Rockmount, an award-winning short film about a young Roy Keane

Worth a watch

Conor Heneghan

An insight into Roy the boy before he became a man.

He might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but there’s no doubt that Roy Keane is one of the most fascinating characters in Irish life, regardless of whether you’re into sport or not.

If you’ve followed Roy’s career you’ll have heard of the determination he had to succeed from an early age and that shines through in a short movie called Rockmount, the full-length version of which was released on YouTube today.

Directed by Dave Tynan, the movie focuses on Roy’s efforts to succeed at his first club, Rockmount and offers an early glimpse of the type of personality traits that stayed with Keane throughout his career.

The film debuted at the Cork film festival earlier this year and has already won a host of awards, including best short at the IFTAs and Galway Film Fleadh.

Like pretty much anything to do with Roy, it’s fascinating and well worth a watch.
